Secondary Education: Competition Winners
BAA awards £1,000 IT grant to Orleans Park School and
Port Glasgow High School
BAA has awarded a £1,000 prize to Orleans Park School Twickenham, and Port Glasgow High School Inverclyde, for the purchase of school IT equipment in a competition launched on the company's Take Off and Learn education website. Secondary school ICT teachers around BAA's seven UK airports were encouraged to register on the website to win one of two prizes of £1,000 for the school and an iPod nano for themselves.
The winning teacher from Orleans Park, Rosina Criso said "I am so pleased and surprised to have won this prize! I want to use the money to buy some digital video cameras which can be used for student projects such as creating anti-bullying or personal safety videos."

Alan Dick, Head Teacher at Port Glasgow, said "I am delighted at the success of our pupils in the competition. Port Glasgow High is committed to giving our pupils high quality learning experiences and we rely on our community and business partners to help us relate these to the world outside of school. The BAA website development is a perfect example of this type of collaboration."

"The Take Off and Learn website is a great resource for engaging primary and secondary schools in interactive technology," said Sarah Nock, Community Relations Manager, BAA Heathrow. "I am very happy that a school in the Heathrow area was amongst the two winning schools. Rosina Criso's video project idea sounds very innovative and I am really glad that BAA are able to help make it happen."
Raye Wyllie, Community Relations Manager at Glasgow Airport, said "We're delighted that Port Glasgow High School was one of two winners in our nationwide competition. I'm sure the pupils will make great use of this fantastic prize. We hope that Take Off and Learn will give pupils across Inverclyde an insight into the important role that technology plays in an airport environment and the type of skills they themselves could gain by working at an airport."
BAA is committed to supporting the Government's 14-19 year old education agenda through community programmes at all seven BAA airports in the UK. Our Take Off and Learn education website is just one of a range of programmes to help young people develop key skills to support their personal development and future employability.
